"Hello, I just got stung with the purchase of a fake Extrema Ratio Fulcrum IIT.....paid 50% of your price, so I should have known. During my search to confirm my suspicions, I came across some good tell tale indicators of a fake knife. Hope they help someone.   Especially for the Fulcrum II and MPC folders...generally the same for other models.

  1. BLADE COLOUR:

Extrema Ratio (ER)......duller greyish matt

Fake (F)......black glossy shine

2. BLADE GRIND AT PIVOT POINT:

ER......smooth rounded arc

F......sharp straight line

3. SERRATIONS:

ER......5 larger grinds starting and ending at each side, with 2 small grinds between each large grind

F......4 large grinds from the front back, ending in 3 small grinds closest to the handle (instead of the large grind and 2 small)

4. SERIAL # (Fulcrum II):

ER......individual # for each knife

F......seem to use the one stamped # "C0277C"

5. SPINE:

ER......nice close fit with same greyish colour of the blade, softer edges along the spines length...spine and blade align

F......uneven spacing between handle and the spine, gloss black colour and rough 'stamped steel' looking edges....spine and blade are slightly off center

6. LOCKING PIN:

ER......locking pin should hold blade in the closed position when engaged

F......slight wiggling of the closed blade allows it to open with pin engaged

7. BLADE TOP GRIND:

ER......flat top surface comes to a POINT before it drops down to a NARROW front tanto blade edge

F......flat top surface comes to a CHISEL before it drops down to a WIDER front tanto blade edge

8. 'MADE IN ITALY'

ER......the 'Made in Italy' on the blade is very close to the handle, almost touching

F......the 'Made in Italy' is further away from the handle, only by a couple of millimeters....but enough to notice

***serration and other observations do not seem to apply to the fixed blade models*****

Some of these won't do you much good unless you can see the knife closeup, and some vendors use real photos but ship fakes.....try to get some photo's before buying and confirm in writing that the item is genuine and the actual item in the photo.....even better, buy from a authorized dealer.....it's more money upfront, but better value than paying big bucks for a Chinese knock-off."
